We recognize the sacrifices that have been made by you and your family. The Medallion stair lift is currently being supplied to veterans throughout many of the VAMC locations and are most often allocated through the Prosthetics Department.
Stair lifts are available to qualifying veterans who have been assigned a primary care physician and are actively participating within the VAMC health system. A Doctor's Order may require a physical ability assessment, and then followed up with a home visit from the home nursing assessment team. Once approved, several vendors will visit your home to take measurements and provide formal bids to the Purchasing Department. An Award (Purchase Order) will be presented to the one of the vendors and the stair lift will be installed within a week or two. The entire process may take several months (and several appointments) to complete.
The Veterans Administration works with several different manufacturers. You could end up receiving one of a variety of stair lift brands. Asking your doctor to prescribe a "Grease Free Worm Drive Stair Lift" because you are physically incapable of cleaning and re-greasing the track on a regular basis, may help you in securing a maintenance free system for your home.
